West of Town

Priest Pass Trails
The map shows a two-mile loop that leads up from the first parking area along the Priest Pass Rd. just after the hard left turn. A bit of elevation gain makes this a nice pulse-pounder. Lots of wildflowers and birds.

Tenmile Environmental Trail
The map shows a two-mile loop that leads up from the first paring area and loops aling the shoreline providing lots of bird activity nearly year round.

Mullan Pass – North section of CDT
The map shows a 1.8 mile loop that leads up from the parking area at the side of the road on top of Mullan Pass. Wide open and often windswept, this is a great trail for wildflowers, skyscapes, and butterflies. It also passes the location of the first Masonic Rites ceremony in Montana.
East of Town

Prickly Pear Loop
This short loop parallels the Prickly Pear Creek for about .3 miles (.6k), then loopes out to the west and runs along a barbed-wire frnce through a seasonally wet meadow.

Spokane Bay Trail
East of town, lie the McMaster Hills.

Regulating Reservoir
The map shows a short, easy loop that leads up from the first paring area and loops aling the shoreline providing lots of bird activity nearly year round.

Black Sandy State Park Overlook Trail
Not a long trail, but a nice view from the top. This trail is typically sheltered from the wind, and also provides a nice shady walk later in the afternoon. Decent number of birds and wildflowers in the right seasons.

ScratchGravel Hills Trails
Just north of the city limits lie the Scratchgravel Hills. A mix of BLM and private property, lots of old roads across the BLM land make for easy, enjoyable trail access. The tallest of the hills rises to 5233 feet, about 1300 feet above the valley. Learn more
